Every classroom has now completed the required orientation to inform and remind students of the rules and policies of our Media Center. Fourth and Fifth grades have also created their own Destiny accounts and can save and maintain their own lists of books and websites which can be used for research, Rocket Readers, keeping track of books they've read in a series, etc.
Parents, did you know that you can view Destiny, our library collection, from home? It lives inside of Cobb Virtual Library. For K-2 parents, ask your child's teacher for the username and password. For parents of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, ask your student!
In Kindergarten, we connected to what they were learning in the classroom about our five senses through a story called Hello Ocean by Pam Munoz Ryan. First Graders heard a non-fiction story called A Rainy Day by Sandra Markle as a preview of what they will learn about Weather & Seasons next week. The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein was enjoyed by Second Graders who were intrigued by the unusual but true story of Philippe Petit, a young man who walked on a high wire between the Twin Towers in 1974.
Third, fourth and fifth grades are busy checking out books to read for pleasure and as resources for their projects, book reports, etc. It is wonderful to see everyone back in the Media Center ~ we are off to a great start!
Moving to another topic, our summer reading program has now concluded and students are coming to the Media Center to choose their surprises. We started with 5th grade this week and anticipate working our way down to Kindergarten by the end of next week. A new year of Champion Rocket Readers (sponsored by PTA) is underway; forms will be coming home on Friday, September 9th. Make sure to read the letter to parents and monitor your child's progress. If you lose your form, you may go the the PTA page on the Cheatham Hill website and print a new one. We hope that you will encourage your child to participate and earn their way to the Breakfast of Champions next May.
